SBCA Happenings

by Carolyn O’Keeffe, President; SBCA Board of Directors

Welcome to July and warmer weather, picnics, family vacations and 4th of July parades!

South Bay has been quite busy with multiple activities.  June’s Pancake Breakfast was in support of the Salmon Coalition and there was a great turnout.  On June 12th we had a lively Members Social with a BBQ of burger/hot dogs with many sides. The band, Still Got It played and many attendees danced to favorite songs of our youth!

July’s big event will be our SBCA Annual General Meeting on Monday, July 15 at 1 p.m.  All materials were mailed out to members prior to June 15.  We have six open Director positions.  Current Director, John Cacho will continue as Board member, fulfilling the second year of his term. Current Board members, Christine Spagle, Donna Colosky, and Carolyn O’Keeffe whose terms are expiring this year, will be running again.  Susan Shadrick, Mark Schwendener and Corey Wilkerson have volunteered to run for the board, and we are grateful for their dedication and willingness to support our SBCA community through leadership on the Board of Directors. We are thrilled to have a full slate of candidates for the six open positions.  As always, members can vote for a write-in candidate. In addition to the election of Board of Directors, we have four ballot issues to be voted on: approval of 2025 Annual Meeting minutes, ratification of the Operating and Reserve Fund Budgets for 2026-2027, whether to waive a financial audit for 2025-2026 fiscal year, and whether to adopt the proposed amended version of the SBCA Bylaws that reconcile any conflict with current changes in Washington State law (RCW 64.90).

We will also discuss our Operating and Reserve Budgets. Several Board members, our General Manager, SBCA Committees and volunteers assisted in developing the Association budget for the year ending June 30, 2027. The 2023 Reserve Study (with site visits) influenced the recommendations for reserve contributions and reporting.  Thorough explanations and details of both can be found in the annual packet that was mailed to each SBCA member household in June, specifically within the Budget Narrative document, Reserve Study/Funding Plan and Reserve Study Strength Calculations with Projected Reserve Balance Changes.  We’ll also discuss upcoming projects for the 2026-2027 fiscal year and recognize and honor our committees, volunteers and staff.

It is very critical that SBCA members participate in the Annual Meeting by proxy, absentee

Ballot or in person at the Bay Club on Monday, July 15.We will have a member reception following the meeting with appetizers, beer, wine and soft drinks. If weather permits, we will hold the reception outdoors on the patio.  If you have any questions prior to the meeting, you can contact our General Manager, Mark Torres at gm@sbca.club or the board via the contact form on the SBCA website, sbca.club

We hope to see you at our SBCA Annual Meeting!
