Informational and Educational Programs for the Port Ludlow Community

The following programs are open to all Port Ludlow Community residents. Programs are at the Bay Club (unless otherwise noted), 120 Spinnaker Place, and begin at 1p.m.. Programs are free of charge. Topics and speakers from a multitude of backgrounds are offered for our residents. As important as it is to continue to strengthen the body, it is just as important to continue to strengthen the mind.

Tuesday, August 11. Yolanda Wilde previously made a great presentation on elderly abuse and how Dove House operates as a registered provider of emergency domestic violence shelter and advocacy. This presentation will be an expansion and update of her previous work. Dove House is the only Crime Victim Service center in Jefferson County, WA, and offers services to support victims of all crimes. Its programs also include Recovery Cafe and Dove House Closet. The program will provide guidance on signs of abuse and what actions you can take. 

Thursday, August 13. Join Jefferson Healthcare to learn about the new online scheduling feature for primary care appointments. Patients can now easily schedule appointments with their primary care team through MyChart. MyChart is a secure online system that provides patients with easy access to their medical information and allows patients to communicate with their care team. With MyChart, you can manage your health records and appointments and communicate with your doctor. Bring your questions and ask the Jefferson Healthcare team!

Tuesday, August 18. JoAnne Schueler of the Washington State Department of Transportation will be giving a presentation on the Hood Canal Bridge. Ms Schueler will share the Hood Canal Bridge story: history, operations, preservation projects, and plans for the future. She will also provide an overview of WSDOT Olympic Region and touch on other on-going WSDOT projects in the area.

Tuesday, August 25. The Cascade Range Volcanoes and the 1980 Eruption of Mount St. Helens will be the focus of this presentation by Dr. Steve Malone. Increased earthquake activity almost always precedes volcanic eruptions.  The Pacific Northwest Seismic Network monitors all volcanoes in Washington and Oregon and is part of the warning and study of eruptions.  How this played out in the 1980s, and again in 2004, at Mount St. Helens will be covered in detail.

Thursday, August 27. Our first road trip! This presentation will be at the Port Townsend Aero Museum (free admission as part our group), The Museum is dedicated to preserving aviation history in the Pacific Northwest. The presentation will include a brief history of flight in the PNW including Seattle's first flight, the founding of the Boeing Aircraft Company, and finally the history of the Jefferson County Airport and the Port Townsend Aero Museum. This will be followed by a museum tour. The museum is located at 105 Airport Road,  midway between Port Ludlow and Port Townsend.
