SBCA Happenings

by Carolyn O’Keeffe, President; SBCA Board of Directors

Welcome to March 2026 and spring! The crocus and daffodils are peeking out of the ground and leaves are budding out on our trees and shrubs.  It’s a welcome relief from the winter greys and browns!

We continue to move forward on our Reserve projects at the Bay Club.  Our Weight Room has had its remake, and we’ve received positive feedback on all the changes. We’re adding info sessions for members on how each piece of equipment works. The new equipment also has QR codes that provide information on the equipment. Members can click on the QR code to read about and see how to use each piece. Changes can also be seen in our two locker rooms with the installation of new lockers.

Other spring work will include repairs to the concrete of specific curbs and sidewalks out front. We will also focus on landscaping work at the front of the Club, including additional root removal and soil enhancement. New plantings would occur later in the spring.

Our Pancake Breakfast on Friday, March 6 will support our Trails Committee and all the work they do to build, repair and maintain the miles of trails in our area.  They had quite a bit of repair work to do after the heavy rains!

Both our Facilities and Finance Committees are busy at work too. The Facilities Committee has reviewed the Reserve Study’s items and recommended specific ones to the Finance Committee to consider for the 2026-2027 budget. The Finance Committee will use these recommendations in their budget development process.  If you are interested in seeing how our budgeting process works, you are welcome to attend our Finance Committee meetings the Tuesday prior to the Board meeting.

Our new Long-Range Planning Committee launched in February. It meets on the Tuesday after the SBCA Board meeting at 1 p.m. in the Conference Room of the Bay Club. The goal is to address the challenge of rising operational costs (due to inflation) with the constraints of fixed-income homeowners (HOA), long-term (HOA) financial health, sustaining all current standards of care and member services, ensuring high-value ownership experience, and protecting a sustainable annual assessment rate. Their work and recommendations will support the SBCA Board of Directors in establishing strategies for long-term planning for the financial health and stability of our SBCA HOA.

We have great speakers and presentations scheduled in March. David Brownell has two scheduled presentations on the First Nations. Jefferson Healthcare will be joining our line up again. Check the box on the right of this article for details of all our presentations and activities for March and April.
