Port Ludlow Village Council Emergency Committee

In a community of 2,900 mostly-retired residents, true confidence comes from knowing we’re prepared. We live in a region where earthquakes, wildfires, and other major events are inevitable, and acknowledging that reality allows us to respond with calm, practical readiness. The Port Ludlow Village Council Emergency Committee (PLVC EC) is hard at work to help every household feel informed, supported, and connected well before any emergency occurs. When we prepare together, we replace uncertainty with a steady sense of confidence.

We work on three core activities that build that confidence. First, we create and maintain a community‑wide communications network, supported by a dedicated team of neighborhood block captains and radio operators who help relay information quickly and reliably during an emergency. Second, we participate in community events throughout the year, including this year’s Great Washington Shakeout, offering education, demonstrations, and opportunities for neighbors to learn and prepare together. Third, we serve as a liaison to the county’s Department of Emergency Management, ensuring our community stays aligned with official guidance and best practices. These efforts help us stay coordinated, resilient, and ready to respond effectively if a major event occurs — and they work best when residents are engaged and connected.

We invite all residents to learn more about our mission and how you can participate. On Thursday, September 17, at 4:00 p.m. at the Bay Club, we will host a community presentation to describe our planning, explain our existing communications network, and answer questions. There is a paving project going on at the Bay Club that week, so there may be a short delay as you approach the building. Whether you’re curious about our preparations for an emergency, communications plans, or simply want to meet the volunteers working behind the scenes, your presence strengthens our collective resilience. Preparedness is a community activity. It grows when we show up for one another, and even small levels of involvement make a meaningful difference. We hope to see you there.
