Port Ludlow Village Council Election Season is Upon Us

by Geoff Lang, President, Port Ludlow Village Council

Over the next few months our Voice articles will primarily be focused on our Election Cycle (see Tam’s article in this issue). However, if you want to stay in the loop with all things Port Ludlow Village Council or otherwise, drop by portludlowvillagecouncil.org to sign up for our biweekly emails. In the year and a half since we rolled out our new website with an emphasis on improving our communication with our community we have added nearly 300 residents to our list — but we are still short of reaching every home in Port Ludlow.

I asked each of our current Board of Directors to write a brief essay about why they give their time to the Council and will share some of those over the coming months. Our Activities and Events Chair, Lois Grazioli, wrote the following when asked "What is your Why?”

“The beauty of the Olympic Peninsula prompted my relocation to Port Ludlow from California in January 2024. Shortly thereafter, I was invited by a former Board member to join the Village Council as a way of learning about my new community. Other non-profit organizations also solicited me for membership. However, I quickly understood the unique role of the Council and its broader mission. Not only does it unify the entire Port Ludlow community, but also its influence reaches well beyond. The dynamic team of directors has a clear common purpose to improve the quality of life here by drawing people out of isolation, especially our seniors, to participate in activities with higher goals. Its various committees help protect the natural beauty of our environment and the safety of its residents. The Council is a delightful, dedicated group of volunteers who are fast becoming friends while we execute our mission. I often say that I did not choose the Village Council, but it chose me, and what a satisfying way to become a viable part of this worthwhile enterprise.”

I hope her words inspire you to consider joining us in the coming year as a Board or Committee member. Regardless, I look forward to seeing you out and about in the Village or perhaps at our next Board Meeting on Thursday, July 2nd at the Beach Club.

The first winner of our summer raffle was drawn at our June Board Meeting. Maria Abrams was the recipient of the coffee and chocolate basket. Congratulations Maria!
