The Boys in the Boat at Dine and Discover

The Boys in the Boat, a New York Times best-selling book and then a popular movie, tells the story of the men’s Olympic rowing team that won the gold medal at the 1936 Olympics in Nazi Germany. What makes it especially interesting is that the team competing was from the University of Washington and made up of young men from poor, working families. At the center of the story is Joe Rantz, a boy without a family, from Sequim. Join us at the Beach Club on Monday, October 5, 5:30 p.m., when Judy Willman, Joe Rantz’s daughter, will share Joe’s story in a way no one else can.
This is our first Dine and Discover for the 2026-2027 season. Sign-up sheets will be available at the front desk at both the Beach and the Bay Club by September 9th. and will be removed on October 2nd or sooner if we reach our maximum.
This event is open to North and South Bay members and their guests. Whatever dish you sign up to bring, please make it large enough to serve 8-10 people. If bringing an appetizer, please bring one that can be easily served by our volunteers. Dips do not work well. Some of us have dietary issues, so please put a note on your dish if it contains any of the following allergens: wheat, soy, eggs, milk, tree nuts, peanuts, fish, or shellfish. You will also need to bring your place setting (plates, napkins, eating utensils, glasses), placemats if desired and a plastic bag to put your dirty dishes in to go home. We provide coffee/tea/water but if you would prefer something else to drink, you’re welcome to bring your beverage of choice.
Admission is $5.00 per person payable at the door. This covers the cost of the facility, coffee/tea, banquet permit and the honorarium we provide to the speaker. If you sign up but are unable to attend, please let us know as no-shows can significantly affect the food selection. Questions or suggestions - call us at 360-437-8091.
