Visit the19th Annual Whatcom County Farm Tour

Sustainable Connections, an organization with a goal to advance a regenerative local economy, invites the community to celebrate local agriculture during the 19th Annual Whatcom County Farm Tour, taking place Saturday, September 12, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Whatcom County is located east of the Olympic Peninsula in northern Washington state. It’s a beautiful ferry ride out of Port Townsend, then a drive up Whidbey Island, and across Deception Pass Bridge.

The Whatcom County Farm Tour is part of “September Eat Local Month,” Sustainable Connections' annual month-long celebration of the farmers, fishers, food producers, chefs, and businesses that help feed our region. Now in its nineteenth year, the Whatcom County Farm Tour has spent nearly two decades connecting community members with the people who grow, raise, and produce local food. Thirteen farms are participating this year.

From aquaponic and indoor vertical farming to dairy, livestock farms, flower growers, and community-based agricultural projects, this year's tour showcases the remarkable diversity of Whatcom County agriculture. Visitors can see firsthand how local food systems are adapting to new challenges while honoring the values that have sustained farming communities for generations.  

“People are increasingly curious about where their food comes from and who grows it,” says Jessica Gillis, Food & Farming Program Manager at Sustainable Connections. “The Farm Tour creates an opportunity for meaningful connections between farmers and community members. Visitors can ask questions, learn directly from producers, and gain a deeper understanding of the work and care that goes into building our thriving local food system.” 

For many participating farms, the event is also an important opportunity to build relationships with customers and strengthen support for local agriculture. By purchasing directly from farms and learning about regional food production, visitors help sustain local agriculture and contribute to a more resilient local economy. 

The Whatcom County Farm Tour is a free event, with a suggested donation of $10 per person or $25 per group to help with event costs. This event is open to all ages. Advance registration is encouraged. Community members interested in supporting the event can also volunteer.
