SBCA Happenings
by Carolyn O’Keeffe, President; SBCA Board of Directors
Here we are in November! The sun is setting earlier and rising later, and the holiday season is fast approaching!
We were busy completing our reserve projects in October. We completed the resurfacing and striping of our parking lot and the roads coming into the Bay Club and the Village of Inner Harbor. We battled the rain and finally had enough sunny days to complete the work. We also received and installed the new lockers for both the Women’s and Men’s locker rooms. They look super! Our pool and spa drainage system were replaced. Once we began the project, we found more issues and problems than we had expected, from supply lines in incorrect locations to previously unknown leaks. The new drainage system was much needed and one we are pleased to have in place. During the Club closure, the electricians came in and replaced the electric panel in the pool room. The plumbers also came in and worked to improve the hot water supply during this time. Many thanks to all who did the work! Thanks too, for all our water-loving exercisers for being so patient while the pool area was closed!
Our SBCA Activities Committee has been hard at work. We have great upcoming events this month: Cathy Beatty will be here to discuss genealogy; David Brownell, local historian, will be presenting the history of Port Ludlow; and our final presentation in November is with Dana Warr from WSDOT who will share with us a behind-the-scenes look at the ferry systems. Please come and join us at the Bay Club for these events.
Our Health/Fitness Committee is committed to ensuring there are multiple ways we can keep healthy and fit during the holiday season from water aerobics, virtual water aerobics, aqua walk, lap swim, and individual water exercises to the cardio room with multiple exercise machines to get our hearts pumping and, of course, to the weights room to either begin or continue your resistance journey. Please be sure to read (or sign up if you haven’t already) for this month’s health/fitness Communiqué.
On November 11, we pause to remember and honor all our veterans who served in the military to protect our country. November 11 is a federal holiday that originated from Armistice Day, which marked the end of World War I on November 11, 1918. Wearing a red poppy, adding flags to the gravesites of veterans, attending ceremonies held by local veterans’ associations, and reaching out to veterans we know to thank them for their service are ways we can take time to honor our vets. This year PLVC, SBCA, and LMC will host a Veterans Day event at the Bay Club to honor our local vets. Please join us at 10:30 a.m.
Of course, November ends with Thanksgiving holiday activities, food, and family. Wishing you all the best!
