Port Ludlow Hiking Club

by John Fillers, Port Ludlow Hiking Club

Hikers meet at the Bridge Deck in Port Ludlow on the day of the hike at 8:15 a.m. to get directions to the trailheads, arrange carpools, and depart at 8:30 a.m. New maps are available for download (see note below).

Those on the hiking email roster receive an update the week of a scheduled outing. If you would like to be added to the email roster, send a note to plhikingclub@yahoo.com, or go to the club’s website at portludlowhikingclub.com and click “Contact” to send a message. Anyone may join in the hikes; you don’t have to be a member of the email roster or club.

Friday, March 27 – Hansville Greenway Buck Lake to Hood Canal

This hike is in Kitsap County starting at Buck Lake near Hansville. The trails are part of the Hansville Greenway. We begin at the Buck Lake County Park parking lot and walk across the recreation field to the trailhead. Then we go on the following trails:

Otter Meadow Trail to Sid Knutson Trail to Hawk’s Hole Creek Trail to Hood Canal Drive to Shore Woods Beach. We will have a snack at the picnic tables on the beach with a panoramic view across the water from the Hood Canal Bridge in the south to Tala Point and Foulweather Bluff in the north. The round-trip hike is about 5.5 miles with a few minor hills. The trails have some rocks and roots but are generally very easy walking. There is a beaver pond viewpoint and lots of Greenway trees. Dogs must be on a leash. Dress for the weather, take your walking sticks, bring water and snacks. The restrooms at Buck Lake do not open until April 1, so plan accordingly. If you are interested in lunch (and restrooms) afterwards, the Hansgrill restaurant is close to Buck Lake. Hike Leader: Gary Hicks, GLHicks01@gmail.com, 510-566-2401.

Wednesdays: Timberton Loop. Walk the 4.2-mile Timberton Loop. Enjoy views of the Olympic Mountains. This is a no-leader hike. Meet other walkers at the parking lot trailhead on Timberton Drive at 9 a.m.

Monday/Wednesday/Friday - 8 a.m. Join the "Trail Club Group” that meets at the golf club parking lot for a self-led walk on the abandoned golf cart path trail or other alternative route.
