North Olympic Artists’ Cooperative Gallery-9
For October, featured artists at Gallery-9 are Jinx Bryant and Sarah Fitch. Jinx Bryant grew up in a family of potters, painters, and musicians. She worked in clay for many years then moved into painting first with watercolors, second with pastels, and currently with oils. In her work, Jinx aims to carry the viewer beyond first impressions with a subtlety discovered in the details. Jinx states, “I love the initial excitement, when light describes an object, a scene, and a sound. I think of nothing else until I sketch the concept and start the painting. My color palette and textural choices illuminate my personal perspective on the world.”
Sarah Fitch, a self-taught artist, creates stoneware animals and birds with an earthy, whimsical, and spiritual feel. Her goal is to create a sense of liveliness, character, and expression. Her studio, built by her two sons, is in the woods where nature’s wildness still exists. Sarah also keeps horses. Sarah states, “Enchantment with ravens is why I named my workspace the Rolling Raven Studio. Art is a meditative practice that helps me to clear mental clutter and maintain a precarious hold on sanity in this capricious world.”
Gallery-9 at 1012 Water Street in Port Townsend, is a cooperative of local artists open every day, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and until 8 p.m. during Port Townsend’s monthly first Saturday Art Walk. For more information, visit gallery-9.com.
