Happy April from JCLD! Whether you're curling up on the couch listening to April showers, or can't wait to splash in the puddles, be sure to visit the Library too! We’ve got plenty of programs this month, so don’t forget to check out our calendar at jclibrary.info for more exciting and entertaining things to do.
Our next Live Online Author Talk is out of this world! Smithsonian Curator Emerita Valerie Neal will be online to discuss the history of U.S. Women Astronauts. On a Mission: The Smithsonian History of US Women Astronauts covers 61 Astronauts and their journeys, making a name for themselves in a male-dominated field. This cosmic event takes place Thursday, April 2 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Build your way to a fun time with Lego® at the Library on Thursday, April 9 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Enjoy challenges that encourage problem-solving or just play with the bricks and build something cool! Art and Meditation for Adults is also happening April 9 from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. After a short inspiring reading, you will listen to some calming music and create what’s in your mind with paint and brushes.
Do you have a green thumb but don’t know where to start? The WSU Master Gardeners are back to assist you with all things gardening. Find them at the library on Saturday, April 11. They'll start with a class on Tomato Tips from 12 until 1 p.m., then from 1 to 3 p.m. they will answer questions in Ask a Master Gardener. This is an ongoing class, and the rest of the schedule can be found at jclibrary.info.
On Saturday, April 18, the library will host a full-day workshop on Genealogy Basics for Beginners & Advanced Users. This is an opportunity to learn more about how to trace your family history. At 10:30 am there will be a one-hour session designed for beginners who are just getting started. Then, in the afternoon, experienced researchers can sign up for a personal session with a genealogist, who will help you take your research to a new level. There is no need to sign up for the beginner class, but the advanced workshops require registration, at jclibrary.infoThe Friends of the Library Book Sale will also take place on Saturday, April 18. Looking for a book or two to add to your permanent collection? Come join us from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Hagen building next to the library. Find a variety of well-loved books, music CDs, DVDs, and audio books. All proceeds support the Library District.
Don't miss a special Online Author Talk just for kids! Award Winning Author Jason Reynolds will join us live on Thursday, April 30, from 4 – 5 p.m. to share his latest work, Coach, the final installment of his popular Track series. Following the immersive stories of Ghost, Lu, Patina, and Sunny, it’s finally time for Coach to shine in his own book as we discover: Who was Coach before he became an inspiring leader?
