It’s Gonna be Alright – Cruising Season is Here!

by Greg Buscher, PLYC Communication Manager

Last month I wrote about the challenges facing yacht clubs up and down the coast, with Port Ludlow Yacht Club (PLYC) being no exception. It seems clubs of all kinds that don’t adapt to a changing environment risk becoming quaint anachronisms. Still, for a yacht club, tradition will always be hugely important. So, this month I’m focused on cruising, a core PLYC tradition kicking off this month!

While not immune to the need to change it up from time to time, cruising is fundamental to being a yacht club: people with boats (and people with cars and RVs) gather to travel in fun ways to beautiful and often unique destinations while enjoying the camaraderie of good friends. Some cruises recur every year, and some spring as one-offs from the imagination of an enterprising club member. Coming up this month for PLYC members is our Wake-Up Cruise, an annual affair looked forward to not only for the fun of it, but because it also marks the start of cruising season.

The week-long Wake-Up Cruise takes boaters and land cruisers south down Hood Canal and features multi-day stays in Pleasant Harbor and at Alderbrook Resort. Whether traveling on water or on land, it’s a gorgeous trip and getting there and back is half the fun. Both Pleasant Harbor and Alderbrook offer many amenities and ways to enjoy the beautiful properties and surrounding areas. A cruise itinerary of dinners, hikes, games, hot tubs, wine tasting, s’mores, campfires, and more guarantees everybody a great time. There is even a golf outing at Alderbrook. Yes, it rains on the Wake-Up Cruise every single year but never enough to dampen our spirits!

Sound like fun? You’ve still got time to join us. Reach out via our website PLYC.us or send an email to info@plyc.us and an officer will be glad to invite you to the Wreck Room for an introductory dinner or social evening.
