From the Editor's Desk

by Carol Riley, Editor

Have you seen Wicked? Then you will recognize this line, “Because I knew you, I have

changed for good.”

That line speaks to what is going on at the Port Ludlow Voice. We are getting to know

our new volunteers. You may have already noticed the changes. Volunteer roles are

changing – not for what they do, but for who they are. We have a new photo editor,

Kevin Hall. Kevin’s photography skills earned him the chance to have a photograph of

his grace the cover of the December Voice in 2025 and 2023. Grace comes easily to

Kevin as he is also the Pastor of Port Ludlow Community Church. Kevin is stepping in

to fill the position previously held by Steve Deligan. As Kevin learns the ropes, he will be

ably assisted by a former photo editor, Jay Syverson.

There are also new hands doing layout. After 25 years as layout guru and editor-at-large,

Mary Ronen has stepped down to enjoy some California sunshine and be closer to family.

Twenty-five years! Awesome and awe inspiring – thank you, Mary. Our new Mary is

Mary Pacher who has stepped in and is managing to wrangle more than 40 articles into

their correct positions, as well as slot in the ads, all the while keeping an eye on the

deadline for getting the magazine to the Printery.

Ann Bernard is focusing on obtaining more advertisers for the Voice, a very important

role. The Copy Editor role is changing as Carol Riley steps away from that position. We

are working together to look for alternate ways to ensure that proofing and editing

continue to happen to insure a polished finished product.

Another long-term Voice stalwart, Mary Small, who served as final proofreader has also

left us for California. What is it about California!! Moving into that position is one of our

favorite writers, Milt Lum. A frequent contributor who writes about the history of Port

Ludlow has taken on the position of Classified Ad Manager – thank you, Tim Rensema.

To find out more about Tim, please read the Porch Talk article in the April Voice.

Our newly designed website is the work of Cody Maxwell who replaced Tom Sprandel.

Tom left us for Chicago (at least it wasn’t California!), and we miss him.

We also added to our fabulous group of proofreaders. Gary Hammond, Dave

Cunningham, and Dana Steward have red pens in hand to make sure no errors slip by.

Curious as to how the Voice comes together each month? Then please sign up to attend

the May Dine and Discover on Monday, May 4, when members of the Voice staff will

share our secrets.

What a relief and a comfort to know that not only is the print edition still a reality, it is

changing for good.
