October will be a busy and informative month for East Jefferson Fire Rescue (EJFR), beginning with Fire Prevention Week, which is scheduled for October 4 – 10.

This year’s theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower,” and

focuses on everyday charging habits that can help reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires and keep homes and communities safer.

The 5th Annual Fire Rescue Fest will be held at Station 1, 701Harrison Street in Port Townsend on Saturday, Oct.10, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. This event celebrates the history of fire service in Jefferson County, with firefighter demos, skills competitions, and fun and interactive activities for kids and adults. Additional information about these events

can be found at efjr.org.

This year’s National ShakeOut drill will take place on Thursday, October 15, at 10:16 a.m. The Jefferson County Department of Emergency Management strongly encourages area residents to participate in the Drop, Cover and Hold exercise. For more information and to register your neighborhood or group, go to shakeout.org/washington. More information can also be found at mil.wa.gov/earthquake.

If you have questions about the services EJFR provides, log into efjr.org or call 360-385-2626. More information about the Department of Emergency Management can be found at bit.ly/jeffcoeoc.
