Summer Reading at JCLD

Summer reading and activities at the Jefferson County Library District (JCLD) are going full speed ahead! Visit jclibrary.info to check out our programs and events calendar. On Saturday, July 4, the Library District will be closed for Independence Day.

Don't miss this year's Adult Summer Reading Program. Play Plant a Seed Book Bingo and read Close to Home: The Wonders of Nature Just Outside Your Door by Thor Hanson. Join us at the end of the summer to enjoy an author talk by the author of this year’s summer read, Thor Hanson.

JCLD’s summer reading includes programs and events for kids of all ages. Sign up at cleoreads.beanstack.com or pick up a paper tracker at the library or bookmobile to get started. Join us for Kids’ Summer Fun at H.J. Carroll Park in Chimacum on Mondays, and Worthington Park in Quilcene on Tuesdays, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Reading and dogs merge on Thursdays, July 2, 9, 23, and 30, from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Bring your favorite book or choose one from the library, then build reading skills and confidence by reading aloud to a certified therapy dog. Register on site for a 20-minute session.

Dive into the art of expression by creating masks with Thaddeus Jurczynski on Thursday, July 2, 2 – 4 p.m. Tissue mâché masks can reflect animals, historical figures, or fictional characters. Along the way, explore balance, proportion, and engineering!

Join WSU Master Gardeners on Saturday, July 11, from noon – 1 p.m. for a talk and Q&A session on a select topic. This month’s topic is Starting from Scratch: Your First Steps in Landscape Design. Afterward, ask any other gardening questions at the WSU Master Gardener's Plant Clinic, 1 – 3 p.m.

Join us on Thursday, July 16, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. for Emergency Preparedness. This month’s topic is Neighborhood Organization: Beforehand and in the Moment. Learn the basic components of working together with your neighbors to help everyone become better prepared in case of an emergency or disaster.
