On June 30, the Port Ludlow Golf Club Ladies’ Invitational welcomed women golfers from area golf clubs and members of the PLWGA. Visiting players enjoyed the course, raffle and after-play awards luncheon at the Bay Club. Many said they’ll be back for next year’s Ladies’ Invitational. The event was organized by PGA Head Professional, Jim Mancill and PLWGA members, Bonnie Vahcic and Lucinda Thompson. PLWGA members and Chairpersons Grace Allen and Diane Kobz generated lots of interest and fun for the Invitational’s basket raffle participants. Kristina Kelly, Executive Director of the Washington Wine Association, donated a case of wine.
At the WGA/MGA Exchanges on July 8 and July 28, teams of one WGA member and one Men’s Group member competed. The event culminated with the announcement of awards at the club house and a luncheon at JR’s Sand Trap Café.
A PLWGA Playday Away took place at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Bremerton. Another Play Day Away is scheduled for Monday, August 10. Members should watch their emails for additional Playday Away dates and destinations. The Gal’s Getaway will take place on September 1 - 4 at Suncadia in Cle Elum. Members should contact Chairpersons Kathi Williams and Lucinda Thompson for more information. Two new home events with White Horse Golf Course will take place in August. White Horse is hosting on Thursday, August 6, and on Tuesday, August 11, PLWGA is hosting.
The Mid-Season Luncheon and General Meeting was held on July 29. The winners of the Captain’s Cup Tournament, a team match play event, were announced. Queens of the Captain’s Cup Tournament, Debi Bozanich and Sue Fechner, were honored as the winners for the second year in a row. The team of Elaine Raymond and Sharon Russell was runner-up, and the team of Linda Aho and Diane Kobz won the Consolation Tournament.
The Friday, August 21, Dove House Tournament is now open for entries.
The PLWGA Club Championship, a three-day event, will be held on August 24, 26, and 28, with a party to follow play on Friday, August 28. To win flight prizes, members only need to participate in two of the three tournament days, but to win the Championship or Low Net of the Field, participants need to play all three days. The next major tournament event, the All-Star Cup, will take place in September. The date of the PLWGA Awards Banquet has been changed. It will now be held on Thursday, October 22, at noon at the Beach Club.
PLWGA Captain Linda Aho invites prospective PLWGA participants to play on Tuesdays. Please contact the Port Ludlow Golf Course Pro Shop at 360-437-0272 to sign up. Note: PLCG membership is not a requisite for participation in the PLWGA league.
