Port Ludlow Women's Golf Association

by Kathleen Traci, PLWGA Publicity Chairperson

The Mid-Year PLWGA Luncheon featured a stars and stripes theme in honor of the Nation’s 250th year anniversary. Chairpersons Cheri Wight and Sheila Schoen planned a wonderful chicken salad entree with a red, white, and blue berry dessert.

Captain Linda Aho welcomed the members to the luncheon and then held a short general meeting. The Captain’s Cup match play tournament was reviewed and the winners, Debi Bozanich and Sue Fechner,  were honored. Captain Aho noted that they were winners for the second year in a row. The Runner-Up team was Sharon Russell and Elaine Raymond. The Team of Diane Kobz and Linda Aho also won the Consolation Tournament for the second year in a row.

Two men’s and women’s exchanges were played in July. The first exchange was won by Diane Kobz and Ken Baldwin. The second exchange was won by Shana Worley and Bob Bertoia. After the first exchange, the men hosted the women for lunch and after the second exchange, the women reciprocated by hosting the men for lunch.

The Club Championship took place on August 24, 26, and 28.  This year, each flight’s winners could qualify if they only played two of the three days. However, the winner of the Club Championship and the Field’s Low Net Winner had to play all three days to qualify.

Two Home and Home events with White Horse Golf Course’s women’s league were highly successful. These events featured mixed teams from both clubs playing 18 holes with luncheons following play.

The All Star Cup Tournament, chaired by Debi Bozanich and Bonnie Vahcic, will take place on September 8 (18 Holes) and September 9 (9 holes), followed by a potluck at Lucinda Thompson’s home. The members are divided between two teams for this tournament - the Shooting Stars and the Northern Lights.

PLWGA Captain Linda Aho invites prospective PLWGA members to play with the league on Tuesdays.  Please call the PLGC Pro Shop at 360-437-0272 to sign up to play.  Note: PLGC membership is no longer a requirement for participation in the PLWGA League.
