Port Ludlow Village Council - Will You Consider Joining Us?

Geoff Lang, President, Port Ludlow Village Council

Continuing our series of articles focusing on our upcoming elections, I ask you to consider joining us. Perhaps as a director on the Board of Directors, perhaps as a committee member, or perhaps a volunteer here or there. We have room for all of the above and welcome your input. However, if for now, you just want to stay in the loop with all things Port Ludlow, Village Council, or otherwise, drop by www.portludlowvillagecouncil.org to sign up for biweekly emails. Or, if you just want to come chat with a council member, a couple of us are in the PLVC booth at the Friday Market in the Village Center each and every Friday. Come say “Hi” through September 25,!

I asked each of our current Board of Directors to write a brief essay about why they give their time to the council. Last month I shared Lois’s essay; this month’s is from Director Tracy Geipel who wrote the following when asked, "What is your Why?”

“I joined PLVC in September 2024 thinking I could help bring a small grocery store with fresh produce to the Village. While this probably won't happen in my lifetime, I've remained on the council because I believe in the power of the people to get things done. While PLVC has no legislative power, it does strive to get residents involved not only with issues important to life in the Village, but also with adding life to the Village. Even though I'm what is referred to as a “social introvert,” I enjoy being involved with helping create ways for folks to get together and have fun, learn new things, bring their skills, and talents to special projects and PLVC committees, and just in general enjoy living within this beautiful natural setting. I also enjoy a challenge (when I'm not feeling too tired) and, like any town, we have these to face as well. Some challenges are positive, some not so much, but as a volunteer councilwoman I am in a position to learn what these challenges are and help plan how to meet them. “Forewarned is forearmed,” as the saying goes. And although I sat through way too many meetings before retirement, I enjoy the fact that PLVC meetings and workshops offer me the chance to have meaningful discussions with other people who also care about what makes a community successful. PLVC makes me think. PLVC makes me do. PLVC makes me feel like I'm engaged with something beyond myself.”

I hope her words inspire you to consider joining us in the coming year as a board or committee member! Regardless, I look forward to seeing you out and about in the Village or perhaps at our next board meeting on August 4 at 3 p.m. at the Bay Club where we will hear from EJFR, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, PUD, our County Commissioner, Port Ludlow Associates, and updates from all of our committees working hard to make Port Ludlow home.

The second winner of our summer raffle was drawn at our July board meeting. Judy Cocchiarella was the recipient of the gift basket donated by Sound Community Bank! Congratulations, Judy!
