Port Ludlow Village Council June 2026 Update

by Geoff Lang, President

Your Village Council (PLVC) has been busy! On April 25 we partnered with the Port Townsend Marine Science Center to participate in the Earth Day Beach Cleanup. A dozen hearty souls braved the sunny, warm, late spring day to collect over 140 pounds of debris from local beaches and roadways. On May 15 we partnered with PCs4People, a local non-profit who works to get computers into underserved communities, to host an electronics recycling drive at the Village Center. We had 76 people come through keeping over 2000 pounds of e-waste out of the landfill.  Thank you to all who came out for this event!

Memorial Day weekend saw the 2nd Annual Spring Community Yard Sale which sold out in record time! We started a waitlist, adjusted the map to fit everyone in and started a second round of a waitlist. We hosted a number of local non-profits, food vendors, and yard salers. We would like to thank Port Ludlow Associates and the Port Ludlow Yacht club for space and logistics, and Richmond American Homes for sponsoring the music provided by the StringAlongs!

We have received the approval from the County to move forward with our roadside trash cleanup and should, by the time this hits your mailbox, have a couple of dates set up for June. A number of residents have also pointed out the condition of the large wooden Port Ludlow Signs (on Swansonville and Oak Bay Roads). We’ll add refurbishing those to our task list when working on those sections of roadway. Check your inbox for opportunities to get involved in this effort.

We have a couple of events on the near horizon as well. There are currently 4 candidates vying to replace Greg Brotherton, Jefferson County Commissioner District 3 who will not run for re-election this fall. We will host a public, town hall style meeting candidate forum for all interested candidates prior to the August 4 primary. This will not be a debate format but rather a chance for residents to get acquainted with the candidates via a question and answer format.

Speaking of elections….PLVC Board election season begins this month! Tam will present the timeline, open positions and details at our June Board Meeting (Thursday, June 4, 2 – 5 p.m. at the Bay Club). We have plenty of room for all interested folks at the table. Perhaps sitting in board or committee meetings isn’t your cup of tea? We can always use help with smaller projects. We’re looking for help tracking down events for our calendar, groups for our clubs and organizations page, and items for our email updates. Please come join us and see where you fit in!

Finally, if you are seeing and hearing about any of the above information here for the first time, or maybe from a neighbor it is time to sign up for our emails! We send an update every couple of weeks detailing upcoming events, council business, and promote local businesses and organizations. Sign up at our website, portludlowvillagecouncil.org, where you will also find our community calendar.

May 7 2026 PLVC Board of Directors Meeting Summary

The Board of Directors met on Thursday, May 7 at the Beach Club. The meeting featured updates from the County including a forthcoming ballot initiative for a levy to fund parks and community centers, significant temporary closures of the Hood Canal Bridge for maintenance and FIFA traffic, and the elevation of fire risk levels to "Moderate," effectively banning vegetation burning.

PLVC remains financially stable with approximately $15,365 in total assets, bolstered by the commencement of the event season. Utility updates focused on fiber optic expansion and regional energy stability concerns.
