There's a special bird sanctuary on the Big Island of Hawaii called Parrots in Paradise. It's a secluded, five acre property on the slopes of Mauna Loa. Most of the resident birds live out their life there, eating healthy food and fresh island fruit, and are protected in large flight aviaries. These conditions make their naturally molted feathers exceptionally colorful.

Kandice has been using exotic parrot feathers in her work for many years. Kandice states, “Working with feathers takes a lot of patience because they can be disturbed with just a puff of air.” Kandice used feathers from Parrots in Paradise to design the collar necklace made from Peacock and Eclectus feathers, embellished with Swarovski rhinestones, and hand-dyed Venice lace.

The public is invited to attend a reception for Kandice on Wednesday, August 12, 4 to 5 p.m. in the lobby of the bank and 5 to 6 p.m. at the adjacent Port Ludlow Art League Gallery. The bank and gallery are located at the corner of Oak Bay Road and Osprey Ridge Drive in Port Ludlow.
