A Solemn Question by Iain McArthur

The Port Ludlow Art League welcomes portrait artist, Iain McArthur, as the speaker for their February Program Meeting.

Portraiture is all about capturing a person's likeness, personality, and identity. As a portrait artist, Iain prefers using pen and ink for his illustrations and acrylics for his paintings. However, he endeavors to go beyond likeness and personality. Iain states, “I want to create something visually appealing that tells a story revealing complex emotions.” He achieves this goal through the meticulous planning of his work where several different processes and ideas come together to create a dramatic portraiture. Additionally, Iain places contrasting elements together to create tension, provoke thought, enhance meaning, and induce an emotional response in the viewer.

Iain’s presentation will discuss portraiture, the importance of shapes, and how to achieve mood. In addition, Iain will direct a group drawing session, sharing his tips and techniques.

The program meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 18, 1 – 3 p.m., at the Port Ludlow Beach Club. The Beach Club is located at 121 Marina View Drive in Port Ludlow. Guests are welcome to attend for a $5 fee. For more information, please visit portludlowart.org.
