Porch Talk

Change is in the air. Can’t you feel it? Fall’s just around the corner, and while I’m sad to see the summer fade away, there’s excitement, too, of what the new season might bring. With every colorful leaf fluttering gently to the ground, another one drifts behind it, and another one after that. In fact, the trails around our neighborhoods are carpeted with those fragile leaves.

Just like the seasons change, so does my time writing the Porch Talk series. For 3.5 years, I’ve had the pleasure of writing stories about people in our community. Some of them I already knew. Still, I was amazed at the new things I learned, and I found myself wondering why I didn’t already know that. Maybe I’d never asked the right questions.

Most of my interviews were with people I hadn’t known at all, but after our conversations, I felt like I could’ve lived next door to many of them. Maybe that’s because I asked a lot more questions. I don’t really know.

Thank you for all the recommendations from readers on whom to interview. Without those little nudges, I may never have written some of those stories. Mostly, thank you to everyone who let me poke and prod with all my crazy questions. That was a very brave thing to do.

With that, Porch Talk and I bid you adieu.
