PLYC – Where the Fun Always Shines

Port Ludlow Yacht Club’s annual Commodore’s Cruise through the San Juan Islands and up into British Columbia has just wrapped up, giving those members a welcome opportunity to stretch their legs ashore and regroup before the next outing. At the same time, other Club members are cruising down Hood Canal or to the south Sound, while still others are making their leisurely way as far north as Juneau, Alaska.

Yup, it’s cruising season once again. PLYC members – boaters and land cruisers alike – are glad to see it arrive. At this time of year, you get (mostly) beautiful days and evenings, calm winds, less crowded destinations, and not too much traffic on the water nor the roads getting there, wherever you decide “there” might be. But I’ve learned since we sold our boat that you can have a blast cruising without a boat. Land cruising by car or RV alongside the fleet is also an adventure and a challenge (remember those family car trips?) and it allows you to participate in all the activities, parties, picnics, and outings ashore with friends who’ve arrived by sea. No shoes, no boat, no problem!

While it seems that half of our members are out yonder, there are still many members here at home. So, how do you have fun in a yacht club when you don’t own a boat or care to travel during the season? How about monthly golf outings, Wednesday night Socials, and Saturday evening dinners of every kind? Women’s Group outings, Opening Day, and the Change of Watch gala add flair, camaraderie, and just the right dash of formality. These events are well attended because they’re as fun as they sound.

So, whether your summer plans include cruising by boat or RV, traveling to see family, visiting a new destination, or just hanging out here at home in one of the most beautiful places on earth, you can count on something always happening at Port Ludlow Yacht Club.
