Niners’ News

by Kathleen Traci, Lady Niners’ Publicity Chairperson

The Niners Cocktail Party on April 2 featured a taco bar at J.R.’s Sand Trap.  Niners Captain, John Bockoven welcomed the group to the 2026 season and Port Ludlow Golf Course (PLGC) Pro Jim Mancill introduced new niners to the membership. Niners Handbooks, created by Elaine Girard, were distributed. Many interesting Thursday games are scheduled, and some games will be played from the new tees that are closer to the hole and allow members to practice their short game. The format of these games allows members to post their scores for their handicap, while still using the scores to determine Thursday play day winners.

The 2026 Niners’ Officers are Captain John Bockoven, Co-Captain Linda Haskin, Treasurer Doug Fett, and Social Chairs Diane Germain and Barb Burke. Couples Chairpersons are Carole and Doug Fett. The first Couples Golf event was a “scramble” format held on April 30. The May Couples event will be a “best two balls of foursome” format and it is scheduled for Thursday, May 28.  Membership in the Niners is required for participation in the monthly couples’ events.

The Captain’s Cup Tournament will be played over four days during the season. Scores will be totaled for three of the four dates to determine male and female winners. The first Captain’s Cup date is Thursday, May 14. Members should continue to use Golf Genius to sign up for play on Thursday mornings. Scores for Thursday play will be entered into Golf Genius by the Port Ludlow Pro Shop.

Captain Bockoven invites prospective league members to play 9 holes with the group any Thursday morning. To sign up to play with the Niners, please contact the Port Ludlow Pro Shop at 360-437-0272. Special note: PLGC membership is no longer a requirement to join the Niners.
