Niners’ News

by Kathleen Traci, Lady Niners’ Publicity Chairperson

The Niners’ Men and Women who play nine holes of competitive golf weekly are looking forward to a great 2026 season. A kick-off for the season will be the 2026 Niners’ Cocktail Party on Thursday, April 2. It is expected that the event will be well attended by members of the Niners’ League and their spouses and friends. John Bockoven, Niners’ Captain, will welcome the leagues’ members, highlight the coming season’s events and answer questions regarding these events. New and potential Niners’ members will be introduced.

Throughout the season, the Men Niners will precede the Lady Niners on the course, and the league will alternate between the front and back nine. Couples’ 9-hole events are planned for the fourth Thursday of each month. The Ludlow Tees will be featured in games throughout the season. The length of the course is significantly shortened by teeing off from the Ludlow Tees and allows members to practice their short games.

Opening day is Thursday, April 9. Sign-ups on Golf Genius will open on Thursday, April 2. The following games are scheduled for April: Masters Par 3 event, Individual Low Net, Criers, and Best One Net Ball of the Group. The Couples’ group will play a Foursome scramble from the Ludlow Tees on Thursday, April 30.

The Port Ludlow Golf Course’s Golf Genius Scheduling Program will be used for Niners’ event sign-ups. This program was used successfully for the past five years by the Port Ludlow Golf Leagues. This computer program also calculates individual golf statistics for members, including eclectic scores for the season.

The Niners’ membership fee includes Washington State Golf Association Membership (WSGA)  - allowing members to have a GHIN Handicap. The separate fee for the GHIN Handicap is $52. The WSGA updates members’ handicaps and periodically emails updates to members. Individual email addresses are needed for this service. The Niners collect additional minimal funds for weekly prizes. The pro shop collects Thursday’s score cards, enters the members’ scores into Golf Genius, and deposits the winnings into the winning players’ PLGC accounts, allowing members to purchase PLGC merchandise.

Prospective Niners’ members should contact the Pro Shop Desk at the Port Ludlow Golf Course (PLGC) for league information. The PL Lady Niners and the PL Niners Men invite prospective members to join the group for 9 holes of play any Thursday. This season, Port Ludlow Golf Course membership is not required for joining the Niners.
