Martha’s Book Group – Playground

Playground, Richard Powers’s 2024 novel, will be discussed at MBG’s next meeting on Tuesday, March 10, at 4 p.m. at the Bay Club. Powers is the 2019 Pulitzer Prize winning author of The Overstory, a fictional novel about how trees communicate. Playground is a critically acclaimed but divisive novel that explores the intersection of AI, oceanic ecology, and human connection. It has garnered mixed reviews, but is generally considered a highly intelligent, albeit challenging, work of eco-fiction that is both praised for its brilliant, AI-driven twist and criticized for slow pacing and character development. Different points of view contribute to an interesting book group discussion. Join the fun.

Martha’s Book Group meets monthly on the second Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m. at the Bay Club. All are welcome. Books are selected by a consensus of the members and may be available through book club kits. Interested? Contact Sarah Schuch at bookclub@plvoice.org.
