Martha’s Book Group – A Pilgrimage to Eternity

Timothy Egan’s ninth book, A Pilgrimage to Eternity, is Martha’s Book Group’s selection for the Tuesday, June 9meeting at 4 p.m. Whereas his previous books involved a deep dive into the archives to research major historical events or personalities such as the Great Depression of the 1930’s or the life of Edwin Curtis, this book is part travelogue, part memoir and part individual reflection. Egan’s travels along this ancient pilgrimage path from Canterbury, England to Rome, Italy are the crux of this book. Join us as we explore his narration of this journey with its historical perspectives, spiritual insights and comments about the people and places he visits along the way.

Martha’s Book Group meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m. at the Bay Club. There will be no meeting in July, which is our summer hiatus. Meetings will resume on August 11 at 3:30 p.m. to discuss The Comfort of Crows by Margaret Renkl and The Serviceberry by Robin Wall Kimmerer. For more information regarding the book group, contact Sarah Schuch at bookclub@plvoice.org
