The following programs are open to all Port Ludlow Community residents. Programs are at the Bay Club, 120 Spinnaker Place, and will begin at 1 p.m. Programs are free of charge.
Informational and educational presentations provide a forum for increasing knowledge for members of our community. Just as one needs on-going exercise to strengthen the body, these presentations are intended to help on-going strengthening of the mind.
Let’s begin by briefly reflecting on our first year. And wow, what a year! From the First Nations presentations by David Brownell to the CIA presentations by Gary Keeley, we were given great information spanning centuries of time. Jefferson Healthcare covered health issues literally from top to bottom. In between were presentations on “snails and slugs”, the “Jefferson Land Trust”, “crime prevention for senior citizens”, “earthquakes”, the “Salmon Coalition”, and “noxious weeds”, among others. The audiences have been attentive and asked thoughtful questions. So, you ask, what do we have in store for the new fiscal year starting in August? Well, here are some teasers for August — November.
August: Hood Canal Bridge, the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network, Dove House, and our first road trip to the Jefferson County Aero Museum featuring a free tour, and a presentation on history of flight on the Peninsula. The Museum was recently featured in the PT Leader.
September: Thor Hanson, recently written up in Seattle Times and internationally recognized author and botanist, will start our month. Also, David Brownell will be back along with Jefferson Healthcare, and our second road trip which will be a free tour of the Jefferson County Historical Society Museum and Rothschild House.
October: we start out with Margaret Mizushima, award winning author and mystery writer, and also recently featured in the PT Leader. Later in the month we will have a program on fraud prevention, along with presentations by David Brownell and Jefferson Healthcare.
November: David will be back one more time along with Jefferson Healthcare. We will also have a presentation on genealogy for those of us who are wondering about our own personal history. Finally, we are finalizing a date for a presentation on our ferry system.
Gary Keeley will also be joining us for more CIA! (Dates TBD)
