First Wednesday Luncheon

by Stephanie Buehler, Guest Writer

Have you ever wondered how you could make a real difference in the life of an at-risk child?  On April 1 (no foolin') at the Bay Club from 11:00 to 1:00, come and learn about some opportunities. The Jefferson County Juvenile & Family Court is in need of volunteers who are vested in our community and want to help improve outcomes for youth through the following positions:   Guardian ad Litem (GAL) Advocate for local children in the foster care system and Truancy Board Member, supporting youth who are struggling to attend school. Both positions offer free initial training and ongoing staff support.

This luncheon will be BYOL (bring your own lunch). However, coffee, tea and cookies will be served.  Please RSVP either to firstwednesdayluncheon@gmail.com or sign up at the Bay or Beach Club by 3/27.  We'd appreciate a small donation for the expense we incur for the use of the Bay Club.  Otherwise the payment must come out of our collective donations to the Food Bank.

We will be back at the Beach Club on Wednesday, May 6, with a taco salad bar provided by volunteers from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.  Please RSVP by May 3. Olympic Area Agency on Aging will be discussing their Dementia Outreach Program.  Did you know that dementia is the 4th leading cause of death in Washington? It is expected that the number of persons living with dementia in our state will double by 2040.  You may be surprised and heartened to learn of all the support offered for both those suffering from the disease as well as their caregivers.

We've been fortunate to have so many wonderful programs over the past few years.

However, our Program Chair is needing to retire at the end of this season (June).  We are asking those of you who have some interesting ideas and who would like to help in our continuing effort to support the Food Bank monthly (October through June), please contact one of the following people to discuss what's involved:

Stephanie Buehler at 360-301-6824, Fran Bodman at 360-437-5110 or

Joan Astin at 360-437-9307.

There is no charge to attend our luncheons. Instead, we ask that you bring a donation in the form of cash, check made payable to the Jefferson County Food Bank Association (JCFBA) and/or non-perishable food such as condiments, coffee, peanut butter, jelly, canned meat, boxed pasta, etc., egg cartons, and hygiene products.  Food donations must be unopened, undamaged and unexpired,
