Bayside Art Gallery is set to honor six decades of extraordinary creative achievement with its upcoming landmark exhibition, Through Fire & Water: Rita Kepner Sculptures, Paintings, Drawings from 1966 to 2026. Running November 8 –  February 28, 2027, the retrospective is a comprehensive look at      the life’s work of acclaimed American sculptor Rita Kepner.

Featuring more than 50 artworks, the exhibit traces Kepner’s artistic evolution across diverse mediums and spans figurative and abstract forms. Her works explore universal themes of human resilience and emotional vulnerability.

Born in New York in 1944, Kepner relocated to the Pacific Northwest in 1967, where she became an integral part of the regional arts community. Beyond her creative output, she founded the Bainbridge Island Arts and Humanities Council and earned a master’s degree in management from City University of Seattle in 1998 and a Ph.D. in communication from Washington State University in 2010. Recognized in Who’s Who in American Art and Women Artists in America II, her works are held in private and public collections internationally.

Located on the second floor of the historic Old Alcohol Plant Inn in Port Hadlock, Bayside Art Gallery’s mission is to donate proceeds from art sales to support Bayside Housing & Services, providing critical shelter, meals, and healthcare to individuals and families facing poverty in Jefferson County.
