Featured Artist: Misty Pilgrim
Misty is inspired by the natural world around her — vertical forms, strong shadows, moments of transition, and meandering paths that disappear into the distance. These elements motivate her because they speak to change, resilience, and possibility.
Many of Misty’s paintings begin en plein air (on location) and are further developed in her studio. She works in oil, occasionally creating studies in acrylic or watercolor, using lightfast pigments to ensure the longevity of the work. Over time, she has transitioned to painting with palette knives that enables her to carve into thick paint, build dramatic impasto textures, and sculpt forms in a way that feels raw and immediate.
Misty’s subject matter has been profoundly shaped by living in some of the most dramatically diverse environments. She spent time in the sunbaked regions of the Southwest, the lush, volcanic topography of Hawaii, and now makes her home in the Pacific Northwest. Painting locally, her palette and compositions are influenced by the coastal light and shifting tides. Through these landscapes, she hopes to capture not just a place, but a moment — light shifting, weather passing, and the quiet presence of the land.
During July you can enjoy Misty’s artwork at Sound Community Bank and online at portludlowart.org.
The public is invited to attend a reception for Misty on Wednesday, July 8, 4 – 5 p.m. in the lobby of the bank and 5 – 6 p.m. at the adjacent Port Ludlow Art League Gallery. With summer in full swing and plein air painters capturing the essence of Port Ludlow, be sure to enjoy the gallery’s Summer Days collection of work.
The bank and gallery are located at the corner of Oak Bay Road and Osprey Ridge Drive in Port Ludlow. The bank is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from noon – 4 p.m. For more information, please email info@portludlowart.org or visit portludlowart.org.
